Handcrafted entirely from wood (no paint – no stain), surfboard artist Michael Rumsey used several different species of lumber to create this unique work of surfboard art.

A word from the artist on the inspiration behind this piece:

I had fun with this one! It’s a finless blend between an Old-School Gunny Red Fin with extreme V-bottom and a more modern Diamond Tail with turned down rails. I handcrafted this hollow wood surfboard using the ‘strip-build’ technique which means I place a single strip of wood over a hollow wood surfboard frame – one strip at a time. The water ripple effect comes naturally from the curly birch. I was totally stoked when this one came out of the glass shop as the traditional poly resin really made the water ripple birch pop in an almost 3-D effect. In the right light, it looks like you can reach your hand all the way into the surfboard.
