My friends and surf buddies have had a lot of fun coming up with names for this piece (Surfing the Sperm Bank, or Ratified, or Ratatouille…) but it’s my board so I get to name it – it is simply, The Rat Board.
This finless freak with a flagellated tail is a strip-built hollow wood surfboard. I used light and dark redwood, some koa, and whatever else I found lying around.
Fiber-glassing this piece would have been challenging – so, I instead used a clear varnish which really made the colors pop.
