Gun shaped hollow wood surfboard.

Drifters. No, not that R&B group from the 50’s that my dad listened to. I’m talking about sea animals which drift along with the ocean currents. Specifically, those gelatinous creatures called jellyfish or sea jelly. Jellyfish are the original drifters, in my book.

I’ve had this design idea in my head for a long time. I finally sketched it out of my mind onto paper, and then created the designs in wood once I found the perfect pieces of lumber.

I used several species of wood in this piece. I made the jellyfish from curly maple and burled redwood. The field of the deck is made from basswood. I used some really cool flame redwood on the nose. On the bottom of the board, I used mostly figured maple. For the rails, I used redwood.
