This piece is a hollow wood surfboard with artwork depicting a single ocean wave. I handcrafted this surfboard using the strip-build technique meaning each segment of wood is placed over a custom wood frame, one strip at a time.
I used multiple species in this piece including redwood, paulownia, butternut, and poplar. It should ‘patina’ well over time. As wood naturally patinas, the colors become more rich and darker with age.
It’s a 6′ 4″ x 21-3/4″ x 2-7/8″ Sting inspired shape with glassed-on tri-fin set up. The fins are my own custom design, as well.
