I was at my local lumber and hardwood store and the owner was showing me a unit of African Mahogany he had just purchased. He asked me what I thought about it. I looked at one piece – picked it up – flipped it over – and I got all excited about what I saw. The natural grain patterns in the wood looked like waves!
I had to have it.
In fact, I was so excited to get this lumber home that I forgot to buy what I had actually come in for. Yes – I have a short attention span and am easily distracted by waves of grain.
I started building this hollow wood surfboard the moment I got home.
I used all of the African Mahogany on the deck and paulownia on the rails. The dark pin lines are made from wenge.
