The deck showcases an ocean scene of three perfectly breaking waves against a dark sky with a full moon. The dawn sky is made from figured redwood, the moon from figured maple, the waves from a combination of light and dark redwood, the pinlines from poplar. The bottom of the surfboard is made from a variety of redwood and figured maple. Framed with rails made from light redwood.
Handcrafted entirely from wood (no paint, no stain, no foam), using the strip-build technique over a hollow wood frame, Michael incorporated nearly one hundred individual strips of wood from several different lumber species listed above to create this piece. Technically classified as “Functional Fine Art” because it is built and shaped with technical precision (it’s surfable!), yet designed as a beautiful statement piece of wooden decor for your home or office.
